Please include your device (iPhone, iPad or Mac) and its iOS, iPadOS or macOS version, and a short description of what happened and what you expected. There is no need to send photos; describing the photo (for example, the camera or file format) is usually enough.
Frequently asked questions
How do I open a photo?
On iPhone, tap the photo button at the top left of the editor and choose Open photo. On iPad, tap Open photo in the palette at the top left. On a Mac, click Open photo in the toolbar. The Photos picker opens, and you choose one photo. RawMask Studio edits one photo at a time. Live Photos are not currently shown in the picker.
Where are the buttons on iPad and Mac?
The steps and tools are the same on every device; only their places differ:
- iPhone: the photo button at the top left holds Open photo, Edit target and Add mask, and More options is the ... button at the top right.
- iPad: the palette at the top left holds Open photo, Edit target and Add mask, and More options (the ... button) and Save are at the top right. You can drag the palettes anywhere.
- Mac: Open photo and the steps are in the toolbar, Edit target and Add mask are in the inspector beside the photo, and Editor options (the sliders button) and Export are at the top right.
Which photos can I edit?
RAW photos that Apple's built-in RAW support can read, including Apple ProRAW and RAW files from many cameras, as well as regular photos such as HEIC and JPEG.
Why does the app ask for Photos access?
RawMask Studio opens photos from, and saves edits back to, your Apple Photos library, so iOS, iPadOS or macOS asks for your permission. On iPhone and iPad you can allow full access or limited access to only the photos you pick; on a Mac, access covers the whole library. Either way, the app only opens the photo you choose. See the privacy policy for details.
I chose limited access and cannot find a photo
Limited access is available on iPhone and iPad. With it, the app can only open the photos you have allowed. To allow more photos:
- In the app, tap More options (the ... button), then under Photos access tap Manage allowed photos, or
- open Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos > RawMask Studio and change the selection or choose Full Access.
The app says Photos access is off
On iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos > RawMask Studio and choose Limited Access or Full Access. On a Mac, open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos and allow RawMask Studio. Then return to the app and open a photo again.
How do masks work?
Adjustments apply either to the whole photo or to a mask. Use Edit target to choose what you are editing, and Add mask to add a Radial, Linear, Brush, or Rectangle mask (see where these are on each device above). You can move and resize a mask, paint to add to or subtract from it, and soften its edge with Feather.
What are automatic object masks?
RawMask Studio includes an image segmentation model that finds objects in your photo, such as people, animals, and everyday things, and offers each one as a mask you can edit on its own. The model runs entirely on your device. If it does not pick up the object you want, use a manual mask instead, or adjust Detection confidence and Mask threshold under More options (Editor options on a Mac) > Advanced > Object detection.
Do I need an internet connection?
No. Editing and automatic masks work offline. The one exception is a photo stored in iCloud Photos whose original is not on your device: Photos has to download the original from iCloud before it can be edited.
How do I save or export my edit?
On iPhone, tap More options (the ... button) and go to Save and export. On iPad, use the Save menu at the top right, where the first two choices are called Save to Photos and Save a Copy. On a Mac, click Export in the toolbar. The choices are:
- Save edit to Photos updates the photo in your library. Photos keeps the original, so you can go back to it later with Revert in the Photos app.
- Save a copy to Photos adds the edited image as a new photo and leaves the original unchanged.
- Export photo creates a JPEG, HEIF, or TIFF file in the size and quality you choose. On iPhone and iPad it opens the share sheet, so you can save it to Files or send it to another app; on a Mac, you choose where to save the file.
Where are my presets stored?
On your device, in the app's own storage. They are not uploaded anywhere. You can delete presets in the app, and deleting the app removes them.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone with iOS 17 or later, iPad with iPadOS 17 or later, and Mac computers with Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later. It is one free app for all three.
Does RawMask Studio collect my data?
No. There is no account, analytics, advertising, or tracking, and the app does not send your photos or data to us or to anyone else. Read the full privacy policy.
