Feed Shield is designed to be simple: install it, open Facebook Home, and use the toolbar popup to choose the filters you want.
Facebook Home
Filtering is limited to the Home routes. Profiles, groups, and other Facebook areas are left alone.
Four visible filters
Suggestions, ads, suggested people, and suggested groups can be controlled independently.
Local by design
Filtering and counters stay inside the browser. Facebook post content is not persisted.
If a filter does not seem to work
- Confirm you are using desktop Chrome or Firefox 140 or later and the extension is enabled.
- Open Facebook Home at
https://www.facebook.com/or/home.php. - Open the Feed Shield toolbar popup and confirm the relevant switch is on.
- Refresh Facebook Home once after installing or updating the extension.
- Remember that Facebook interface changes or an unrecognized language variant can affect matching.
Frequently asked questions
Does Feed Shield remove the whole Facebook feed?
No. It selectively hides recognized ads, Follow or Join posts, and optional recommendation sections while ordinary posts remain visible.
Can I restore hidden content?
Yes. Turn the relevant filter off and affected content returns without reloading the page.
Does it click Follow, Join, Leave, or Report?
No. Feed Shield changes page presentation only. It does not perform Facebook account actions.
What does Feed Shield store?
It stores local preferences, an aggregate hidden-post count, and temporary per-tab counter high-water values. It does not persist Facebook post content or identifiers.
Why does the count change?
The current-session count increases when a new matching post is encountered. The all-time total is local to the current browser profile.
Does it work on mobile?
No. Mobile browsers are not supported.
Are Firefox, Edge, Opera, or Safari versions available?
Firefox 2.7.0 has been submitted to AMO and is awaiting review, so its listing is not public yet. Edge, Opera, and Safari releases will be linked only after their store availability is verified.
Where can I report a problem?
Use the official public GitHub issue tracker. Do not include Facebook post content, names, account details, private URLs, or screenshots containing personal information.
