Choose the right level of control

Not every calmer feed
looks the same.

The useful question is not which extension has the longest feature list. It is how much of the feed you want to keep, remove, or redesign.

Four common approaches

Start with the outcome you want

These categories explain the core tradeoff without pretending that every product stays feature-identical over time.

Selective filtering

Keep ordinary posts

Feed Shield fits this approach. Individual controls hide recognized ads, Follow or Join posts, and selected recommendation sections while the rest of Facebook Home remains available.

Whole-feed removal

Remove the scrolling surface

This approach fits a stricter distraction boundary. News Feed Eradicator is a well-known example that replaces supported social feeds instead of selectively filtering posts.

Broad customization

Change more of Facebook

Tools such as F.B. Purity and Social Fixer offer wider Facebook cleanup and customization surfaces. That can suit users who want more than a focused Home-feed filter.

Time or site blocking

Limit access itself

A website blocker or scheduled focus tool is the better category when the real goal is to reduce time on Facebook, not to change what the feed contains.

When Feed Shield is a good fit

  • You still want to see ordinary Facebook Home posts.
  • You want ads and selected recommendation patterns to have independent controls.
  • You prefer filtering that stays local and contains no analytics or remote code.
  • You want a narrow extension that changes presentation but never performs Facebook account actions.

If your goal is to erase the whole feed, redesign many parts of Facebook, or block the site on a schedule, another category may be a better match.
